Why have I created a poll, you may ask? I'd like readers to direct me, After I have completed the Birmingham area, I'm open to suggestions, We can look at Manchester, and the unique design of Manchester Piccadilly, or we can go to Cardiff, and see Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street, Or we can visit the lovely Llangollen Railway, with it's heritage steamers/diesels.
The choice is yours

Me and eoin started playing this game months ago, on openttd with Infrastructure Sharing.
i will do a line by line run through.
---East Coast--
We start in London, and will leave from King's Cross station, heading north -ish
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/346 ... 8696_o.png
We pass the junction for the Hertford Loop (on our right), and the link to Liverpool Street
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3652/346 ... 193b_o.png
This is Stevenage, mainly a commuter stop, Trains from the Hertford Loop terminate here.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3507/346 ... 65a2_o.png
After Stevenage we come to the junction for the line to Cambridge, this is where the commuter trains branch off, in the foreground can be seen the Great Eastern Main LIne
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3533/346 ... 62d2_o.png
Peterborough now, a headache for myself, Crosscountry services use the topmost platforms, all other services use any available platforms, 'Waypoint Peterborough' marks a terminating platform, where trains that have come from the GEML terminate.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3500/346 ... c59e_o.png
This is Peterborough North Junction, the ECML continues northwards, and crosscountry services swing westwards.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3585/346 ... 6390_o.png
Grantham is a fairly large city served by the tiny station, 70% of all NXEC services stop here,
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3646/346 ... 4de6_o.png
We now arrive at Doncaster, a busy station: 'Up Trains' cross over here to allow for the CrossCountry junction, and to reduce congestion, Services from Leeds and Kingston Upon Hull terminate here.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3615/346 ... 36bd_o.png
We will be arriving in York shortly, and the last picture in this set shows the complexity of the junction here. Trains from Hull to London and Sheffield via Doncaster head south here, and trains that ran via Leeds also rejoin the ECML here, the bridge is only used by Empty Coaching Stock.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3532/346 ... 609c_o.png
I couldn't leave you without showing off York Station, it is a very simple design, and works relatively well .
The Harrogate line terminates here, and trains use the far platforms, Trains from Scarborough, Hull and Leeds also terminate here, and they use their respective termini.

T-T-T-riple post!!!!!
Here's a few more screenshots of the various Yorkshire parts of the ECML:
This is the Scarborough 'branch' of the ECML, it is non electrified and is the terminus of trains from York and Sheffield via Hull and Bridlington.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3629/346 ... a491_o.png
In this picture we can see Leeds and Wakefield stations, Leeds station may be moved in future to the west to allow for a line to Bradford and beyond.
Currently only Harrogate line and some ECML services terminate here, all the rest continue through.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3661/346 ... 524a_o.png
Here is Harrogate, which forms the Leeds Second Loop, the first being York - Doncaster - Leeds.
Harrogate is between Leeds and York stations, and has it's own depot.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3617/346 ... 3ed7_o.png
This shows the junctions to the east of Hull, you can see the Bridlington line branching right first, then the York and Doncaster lines go their seperate ways.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/346 ... bb69_o.png
The final picture in Part two shows one of the ECML 'branches' to Kingston Upon Hull, my current City.
There are currently services to Sheffield, Doncaster, London, Scarborough and Bridlington, the local depot can also be seen

Welsh's West Midlands
Sorry for the double post, and sorry for not updating this topic, things have got a little hectic.
I've been playing one scenario now on and off for the last 2-3 months, don't ask why, I just have, and yes, i've used date and money cheats, but still, it's Welsh's West Midlands, s*** happens.
I'll start at one of the busiest cities, Birmingham, It's got 5 stations, and an insane amount of trains.
1) New Street, This is Birmingham New Street, Change here for local and Intercity services
The busiest station, I'm quite happy with the layout of new street, the original platforms can still be seen, and are, as yet, not modernised, The lower platforms are for Cross City and some terminating Cross Country trains, Virgin (red) and London Midland (Green/white) are the main operators, Yellow is Network Rail, who owns all the stations and track.
Operators: Virgin Trains, London Midland City, London Midland Express, CrossCountry, Arriva Trains Wales.
2) Birmingham International is a modern addition, and is a terminus for Cross City, as well as some Arriva Trains Wales services.
There's not much to say about Birmingham International, it just works, Some terminating services use the Sidings as a lay - over, so that they don't occupy the platforms, All terminating services used to do this, but punctuality dropped, so Network Rail changed the rules.
Operators: Virgin Trains, London Midland City, London Midland Express, CrossCountry, Arriva Trains Wales, Wrexham and Shropshire.
3) The Cross City (North) Line is operated in a Metro style, with 8 London Midland City services calling at the stations in this view, some continue to Redditch or Alvechurch, some to Coventry, some to Hereford or Cheltenham, some to Stratford - Upon - Avon, and some to Birmingham New Street.
A CrossCountry service runs non - stop through these stations, This line is getting congested, as there is a 7 tile long tunnel that passes under the New Street Southern approach.
Operators: London Midland City, CrossCountry (Non - stop).
The line with no stations is the Coventry Line, Coventry will appear in the next post, You can also see the Trent Valley Line, As this is only the Midlands, Trains run as ECS from Birmingham International via the Trent Valley waypoint to the depots whicha re out of shot.

Re: [OTTD} Welshdragon's screenshots
Can't be bothered to read your little wall of text there right now. Might do it tomorow.
Anyhoo, some nice track layouts there. Also like your creativity concerning roads and highways.
But, you might wanna spend a tiny bit more time on the platform designs.. Especially in your first shot.

- The map can be found on Bananas, West Midlands 90210 or something!
- A savegame will come, eventually!
Thanks, It's meant to be as realistic as possible, but there will be some discrepancies.jake.grimshaw wrote:Five Ways is before University if you are coming from New StreetBut other than that... pretty good.
Re: [OTTD} Welshdragon's screenshots
These bad boys need more trains. You've got a lot of track.
I do the same though with UK scenarios. I spend hours making the tracks and then don't want to fill them up in case I don't have enough capacity and have to start over

There are a lot of trains, but they all bunch up. you'll probably see how busy it can get.audigex wrote:These bad boys need more trains. You've got a lot of track.

Re: [OTTD} Welshdragon's screenshots
Welcome aboard this London Midland Express service to Liverpool Lime Street, this service will call at: Wolverhampton...
Wolverhampton's the source of many jams on the line, as almost every train calls there, and it's the merging point of the Shrewsbury Line, The line that goes under in a tunnel is the Telford International Line.
The next junction is Trent Valley Junction, where the other lines from Birmingham International come in and merge, To ensure that trains to Birmingham and Wolverhampton aren't affected the fast lines go underneath the junction, and the slow lines stay above.
10 tiles north is Stoke South Junction, this is where the trains for Liverpool diverge off to the left, and trains towards Manchester continue under the tunnels, either calling at Stoke on Trent or using the avoiding lines, We'll continue left, but not before visiting Shrewsbury!

Re: [OTTD} Welshdragon's screenshots
We will shortly be arriving at Telford
Telford is an original station, as its design hasn't changed since the start of the game. It's a very busy station, and could possibly be 4 platformed before I finish the game,
Operators: London Midland City, Arriva Trains Wales, Wrexham and Shropshire.
This service will shortly be arriving at Shrewsbury, where this service terminates. Change here for Arriva Trains Wales and Wrexham and Shropshire services. Shrewsbury is an elegant station, it's also one of the busiest, with 50% of trains terminating here, Arriva Trains Wales is the main operator, with services to South Wales via the Marches Line or Heart of Wales line, services to Chester and North Wales via Wrexham or Crewe, services to Manchester Piccadilly and services to the Cambrian Coast. At the time of taking the picture, a Wrexham and Shropshire loco-hauled set has called here, en route to London, his next stop will be Telford.
Operators: London Midland City, Arriva Trains Wales, Wrexham and Shropshire.
To be continued...

dun de dun de ding
This train is for Manchester Piccadilly, and will be calling at the following principal stations: Whitchurch, Nantwich, (Crewe), (Stockport) and Manchester Piccadilly, The next stop is Whitchurch Simple Station. Yet another Simple Station, the 4 - track line is the West Coast Mainline.
We pass through Crewe, where we re-join the line after it has quadrupled again. No station exists here, as there is no town with the name Crewe in this game, Instead, Crewe is the point at which 3 lines converge, and 1 line commences: The line from Nantwich merges to the south ITrains cross underneath via a tunnel), The North Wales line starts at the 'Chester and North Wales' waypoint, the line to Liverpool continues northwards, and trains that have come via Crewe for no apparent reason to get to Manchester Piccadilly head east, Trains from Stoke on Trent to Liverpool use the east - north line that crosses over the fast lines which are tunnelled, to aid efficiency, Trains from Nantwich to Manchester unfortunately have to cross over using a flat junction, as Network Rail is not willing to provide an alternate route.

Re: [OTTD} Welshdragon's screenshots
We continue on towards Liverpool, while the train we were on continues to Manchester Piccadilly.
The first junction we encounter is where Warrington would be, alas, it doesn't exist in this scenario, but it has provided an interesting track formation. Trains from Manchester Piccadilly - Liverpool come from/go to the east and use the outermost lines, trains from Crewe to Liverpool use the middle lines, and trains from Crewe - Preston (which is a train depot as the map finishes) use the middle 2 lines. Slightly further north (about 5 tiles) is where the 6 tracks become 4 and 2 respectively, 2 lines continue to a train depot 15 tiles northwards, and 4 lines continue to Liverpool Lime Street. The interesting part of this junction is just before the tunnels, where trains on the 'slow' lines can choose which way they want to go, the same as with the 'fast' lines. This is done on a corner as there is not anywhere else better suited for this type of junction.
