It seems that A-Train is more likely an estate game with the theme of railway stations and trains. The aim of the game is somehow company and estate management, not trains and transport themselves. Should the game be renamed "Japanese Private Railway Simulator"?
Private railway companies often operate estates and commercial buildings, and take charge of city developments in Japan, just like the game mechanics of A-Train, although I haven't played it before - Steam versions are too expensive.
By the way, a Japanese (Kansai) private railway company, Hankyu, has successfully expanded its market to China. Hankyu Mall in Ningbo (Zhejiang Province) was opened in 2021, just a few kilometers away from my university campus. I have had meals there before but all things sold and offered in the mall were expensive...
