Two ports connected to one station?

Two ports connected to one station?

Is that possible?

Image

If I try to attach another dock to existing port station (with CTRL+clicking on an existing Docks)

all I get is

In my perfect vision ships don`t stack one on another at the single port but, when going to a certain station, they would spread across available docks, like buses and trams find a free bus/tram stop when the closest one is already taken.

Is that an option?

No, you can only have one port attached to a station. What you see in those images are an illusion made possible by non-station tile NewObject sets, including one of the boats sitting on the edge of the docks.

I know because I built it :D

It would be so nice to have, let`s say, container crane loading cargo to, well, a container freighter, and next to it a massive tanker loading oil via pipes. But you can`t.

it would be a nice option, and initially rather easy to implement. you only need a pathfinder penalty for when a dock is occupied, like stations and bus stops already have. but you have to consider a few things before trying to implement it:
  1. if ships should be distributed between docks, should "stacking" at the same dock be prevented?
  2. if not, why would you add pathfinder penalties to finding an empty dock?
  3. if yes, should "stacking" (passing through) of ships be prevented elsewhere? how should traffic getting stuck be handled?
  4. should a single dock tile allow docking on each (usually 3) side of it, to ease busy dock construction? how should sides blocked by land be treated?
  5. if docks are made more airport-like in the future, to allow NewGRF-replacements, how should that be integrated?

The New Map Features pack has multiple-docks-per-station implemented.

And to update this old post that I again randomly come across, you can now place multiple docks as part of one station.
