- In the main menu click onto the 'Multiplayer' button.
- Click the button 'Start server' (3rd from the left)
- "Game name" is the server name
- you can set a password if you want (click 'set password' button)
- make your settings and click 'Start Game'

if you set the setting 'Connection' to "Internet (advertise)" your server will be added to the list, if set to LAN/Internet you will have to give your IP (or DynDNS if you have one)-address to the people you want to play with.
To find out your own IP-address, there are several websites on the net, e.g. http://whatismyipaddress.com/ or http://myipaddress.com/

Greetings
Connum

P.S.: Oh, yeah, before I forget... You could as well just have read the manual... http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Multiplayer_window

Create new server

Post by Milnes »

Thanks for the reply.

I have been trying this but my brother can't see my server at his house and when he tries to do it I can't see his server. It also doesn't appear on the website (http://www.openttd.com server tab).

If I open two versions of openttd on my machine and start a server on one and search for it with the other then it does find it.

Also, I have joined other peoples games and it does work at my brothers by setting up a LAN game so I am not sure whether it is my internet settings or not but I haven't got a firewall and I go straight through a webstar router (not wireless) for the internet.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Try to let him enter your IP-address directly!

We tried that and it shows as server off line.

When entering the ip address do you need the :3979 on the end?

You need to set up portforwarding for you DSL/Cable router. Forward port 3979 UDP & TCP to the computer that hosts the game.

Me and my brother can join other servers and play their games from our machines, it is when we are hosting that no one can see us.

Will this be sorted by the port forwarding and if so can you point me in the direction of how to port forward?

Thanks

It should be fixed by port forwarding.

That is different for every DSL/Cable router. However, it should be described in a manual of the router (though you might have to get the manual from the website of the manufacturer).

Because you haven't set up the portforwarding of your router correctly.
