OK - Spiff is right (of course)...
First off, We need to decide upon a definate location of where to meet. The majority points to Birmingham, some ideas still point at London...
OK: I'm going to go and write up the pro's and cons...
London
Pros
- Simple location with supporting Public Transport links
- Choice of Covent Garden or Hyde Park. Covent Garden appeals for the transport museum and toilets near by, not to mention food.
- Good for International TTF'ers to get to.
- Plenty of accomodation
Cons
- Difficult and expensive for Northern TTF'ers to get to.
- Expensive anyway
- Easy to get lost
- Reliant on Public Transport in the city
- Accommodation expensive
Birmingham
Pros
- Central of the UK for a central meet-up point forall UK TTF'ers
- Plenty of food and drink (not to mention toilets) in close proximity
- Single Train Station to get lost in
- Accommodation plentiful in the city
Cons
- Not so easy (nor cheap) for international TTF'ers to get to
- Less vantage-ful meeting points
- Public transport is bus, Centro or Tram.
So - these are just some points we have to deal with.

Birmingham also has the advantage that I know where all the good pubs are.
r - Why be a song when you can be a symphony?
[23:14] r: Don't diss Beck, he invented music!
[23:15] Dave: That's like saying the current pope invented Catholicism.
00:09]r: Heh, no-one's replied to your gay thread
[00:10] Dave: Your mom.
[00:11] r: Say what you want about her, she's a c**t
[00:11] Dave: I take a similar dim view of my own mother.
[00:11]r: Did yours leave your dad for a posh tw*t with a mullet and a handlebar moustache then take what was supposed to be your money for uni as part of the divorce settlement?
[00:12] Dave: Sadly not.
[00:13] r: You know what that means then?
[00:13] r: That means I win.
Primeval Blue - almost certainly not the best band in the world.

I think it would have been better if the voting was done after naming all the pros and cons .

Well I maintained that New Street was a viable alternative to 10+ London Terminuses.
Still - I understand what he's saying - take it from me - Centro suck.

Yeah, stupid drinking laws in the UK, in Holland you can get beer at the age of 16 (or 12 if you're female ).SHADOW-XIII wrote:remember not to choose meeting location by amount of local pubs.

You're allowed to enter a pub at the age of 16, however. And most pubs allow 14 year olds up to 9pm.XeryusTC wrote:Yeah, stupid drinking laws in the UK, in Holland you can get beer at the age of 16 (or 12 if you're female ).SHADOW-XIII wrote:remember not to choose meeting location by amount of local pubs.

It makes no difference to you. Trains to both cities leave hourly or so from Plymouth. Maybe a little less for London.M4rek wrote:well, i dont drink and i dont intend to

I'm going to try and sell Birmingham a bit more.
If we met up in London it would be chaos. We could arrange to meet up in Covent Garden, but then everyone coming from the North would end up in Kensington or Euston, everyone coming from the South would end up in Croydon, and Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Commercial all go to different stations. This means we'd all be performing lengthly treks across the Underground, on a Saturday so it would be heaving, which would be especially daunting for anyone who's never been to London or used the Underground before.
If you're arriving by train to Birmingham, you'll arrive in New Street station. If you arrive by plane you get on a train and 2 stops later you arrive in New Street station. From here you can walk out onto New Street, turn the corner, walk towards the Bullring and you'd go past the Yard of Ale which is an excellent pub. Also, the big bull statue outside the Bullring is a good place to meet up.

I've already stated I'm not going to London. It's twice as far away in terms of train time, and it's busy. It's just not going to be a nice day out. Since it's looking like more people are choosing London, it's looking more and more like I'm not going to be there.

Essentially its down to Owen, myself and a third 'absent' person who will have a non-bias towards it all.Brianetta wrote:Since it's looking like more people are choosing London, it's looking more and more like I'm not going to be there.
Please don't think we have discounted Birmingham

Would be nice to join this meeting, but 30 june is in the middel of a work block London or Birmingham, can't do it in one day. Has to take 3 days off. At the other hand, there are more voters from outside the island of England! why not organize this meeting on this side of the canal, Brussels for example, at Gare midi (central station), a lot of international trains stop there.
