Okay, gang. This is the final version. I deepened the shadows in the widows and doors a bit. I also greyed it down some as per m4rek's request (thanks for the feedback man! ) That should just about do it. Hope everyone likes it!
Cheers!

OK, new version now. This includes the updated version of the graphics, and also replaces the icons and pointers with fortress-flavoured one.
Get it here.

WhiteHand: Very, very ! Thanks again for your work on this little project, man.
Hyr: Dunno when / if I'll do a full-blown castle. It has been something that I've wanted to draw for awhile, and this seemed like a chance to try my hand at doing one. Do you have one in mind?
SAC: Glad you like it!
Cheers!

Talk about your Tourist Traps! I want one of those for Saint John. Is it listed on E-Bay?Born Acorn wrote:For full blown castles, I'd rank Caernarfon Castle pretty high on the wow factor.

I can only disagree with Born Acorn's castle.
You need a castle that's stayed true to the Motte and Bailey design (The idea of it being on a hill). You could build a 2x2 hill with a castle on top, as with Dudley Castle - which, in 900 years is STILL undefeated. The occupants surrendered during the siege of the Civil War.
It's in ruins now, but the reason it still stands is BECAUSE of the hill. It was immensely defended on one side, and the other is basically sheer cliff type terrains.

EEK! Did somebody think to get pictures so that we descendants could make reproductions?Dave Worley wrote:It's in ruins now, but the reason it still stands is BECAUSE of the hill. It was immensely defended on one side, and the other is basically sheer cliff type terrains.

There's some pictures in their ruined state, which I guess is good for 1920s onwards.
The history of the place is really interesting... But we need not go there.
Found some piccys!
This one shows how the family that owned the castle during the 1700s rebuilt a section on the interior after the Parliamentarians damaged it beyond repair after capturing it during the Civil War.
There was a fire there, then it was left to rot. And that's the state it's in today.
It's a beautiful place, right on top of the hill. You can still climb the keep - it's still safe. I've done it a couple of times.
The great thing is the fluttering Cross of St George on top - Dudley Castle stands strong I tells ya!
EDIT: Incidentally that last one shows how high above the urban area of Dudley it is. It's a beautiful view.

me sad, me want SAC's landscape, me want fortress. Fortress bad.. not want to be in SAC's landscape, bad bad fortress..........
But on a more serious note, I was working on a scenario inspired by SAC's work, which could actually use this fortress, but I couldn't get it to work together with SAC's nice stuff. Tried placing the grf at the end as well as the beginning of newgrfw.cfg
