Browser based game

Post by burty »

hi i am planning on making a online browser based game however i didn't know what type of genre i was going to make.
I asked some of my mates and got their feedback i was wondering if anyone had ideas also please can you vote in the poll to help me decide.
Roadbuilding
You own a road building company in a world where there is lots of cars and other vehicles that have to get to their destinations however when you develop the roads you have to manage the costs such as how much material you need and if you have the money.
Then if you close a road to redevelop it you have to pay a fee.
Also if you go over the time you applied to close the road for you have to pay a fine for every day you are over.
Monopoly style (build houses / hotels to rent out)
This is pretty self explanatry
Dungeon Adventure
Not quite sure on this one as it was a mates idea so i will get them to give me a definition of what they mean
Arms trade (buy and sell weapons)
You buy all sorts of weapons and there are companies and country's that want to buy your weapon and you have to make money/profit.
A browser based version sort of like OpenTTD
By this i mean an online transport tycoon game where you buy planes trains lorries and buses as well as being able to own your own taxi company
Other (please post)
Please may you post any comments/ideas you have!

I'd be interested to know exactly what you mean when you say a browser based version of Openttd.

I'm wondering if by browser game do you mean text based RPGs and such or do you mean a Java/Shockwave/Whatever game?

Personally, I like the idea of a road-building game. Sounds fun.

Text based with images? Maybe, and I repeat maybe I could be of help with the graphics or text? PM me if you would like.

Oooh nifty! I would like to see some sort of monopoly thing. I love that game. :P
Otherwise I tought about something completly different, I tought a browser game like OGame, Planetarion, Tribalwars etc. MMORPG but a little different. (More textbased and you don't have to walk your units. (Just send them to some specified coordinates and stuff.)) :D

I have a suggestion for you: don't use colors, red and cyan on this shade of grey hurt my eyes :'(.

And you should make a fantasy MMORPG, those are really cool. And maybe you could also mix some minor SciFi in it :).

Exactly, and I think it'd be rather hard to replicate the game in text and images. :P
I voted for roadbuilding, sounds like it would be fun if done well. :)

Maybe you could make something TTD like but with more micromanagement like train shedules for example :). And leave some other (complicated) parts out of it.

i will need lots of help in all sorts of areas on creating these game(s) for more information see the official forum at http://devforum.22web.net
I am slightly experienced with php however i know that some people who might help out will be more experienced than me so i would like to ask them 2 things.
Number 1: Are you willing to work below/alongside someone less experienced
And
Number 2: Are you willing to help me out when and if i get stuck.
If you cant answer yes to both of the above questions please do not offer your help.
I will however be letting the more experienced do most of the syntax and other checking until i am confident enough to do it myself.
however i will still be head of the all the projects and will become more and more involved as i get better.
i am reading lots of tutorials and other php related stuff in my spare time.

ok i have decided to make something TTD like but with more micromanagement like train shedules for example. And leave some other (complicated) parts out of it with Roadbuilding slightly intergrated.
So if this has made you decide you want to help this is my (our) main project.
Secondary project if i get enough people is going to be....

Monopoly style (build houses / hotels to rent out)

These two are/were drawing when i made this post so it will be upto th second project team and me to decide later.
