Letter from Chris Sawyer :)

Post by orudge »

I returned home today for the weekend, and got a pleasant surprise: a letter was waiting for me from Chris Sawyer, in reply to a letter I sent him a while ago. Attached are the scans. Have fun. ;)

I really don't know. Probably at least 30, I'm guessing.

Nah - you just have to read between the lines.

Nice signature... better than our forum ones :P

Its really nice that Chris Sawyer still does things like replying to his fans... its a shame that once a really nice small company like EA has grown into a Microsoft of PC Games...

Hopefully nothing like this will ever happen to Chris and the people of ID Software (luv those guys)

Small companies rule!

Dear Sir or Madam = Yours faithfully
Dear Mr Smith (i.e. a name)= Yours sincerely
i.e. if you know the name of the person/people you're writing to then you sign it 'Yours sincerely'.
(That's the British way, anyway, and it's not too important nowadays, so that's why Chris Sawyer's got it wrong .)

I used "Dear Mr Sawyer" and "Thank you very much for your time," in my letter. ;)

I thought you didn't want to publicise his address...
(I seem to remember a topic that is no more because of this)
So why did you only blur-out your address?

I didn't want to publicise the exact location of his house, etc (a street map of it). That address is available in various places if you know where to look. If Chris Sawyer, his agent, or someone, complains about it, I'll remove it, but I can't be bothered to edit and reupload it, to be honest. ;)

Chris Sawyer wrote: Dear Owen,

Thank you for your letter of 23rd October about your interest in different versions of Transport Tycoon. I can confirm that a Macintosh version of Transport Tycoon does indeed exist, but was only published in Japanese - Enclosed are some colour scans of the front and back of the box. The story is that Microprose's partner in Japan, a company called Itochu, requested a Macintosh version for the Japanese market and funded the entire conversion, which was undertaken by Digital Amusement here in the UK. As part of the development process an English version was also created but Microprose chose not to publish it, so the only published Mac version was in Japanese.

You also ask about a sequel to Transport Tycoon - It has been my aim ever since Transport Tycoon Deluxe to create a new version, and I have indeed worked on sequels several times since 1995, but for one reason or another those projects were all abandoned or postponed. Don't give up hope though - transport is still one of my favourite subjects and at some point in the future there may well be a new version of Transport Tycoon.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Sawyer
