Cool! Anybody inclined to make Japanese translations?

Excellent! thanks a lot to the developement team again!

I'm not sure how could I help, however. I mean, besides translating. Please, tell me exactly what do you need and how do you want it.

Patchman wrote:Some news: alpha 68 will have full support for Unicode, using UTF-8 to encode any character in the Basic Multilingual Plane. So it'll be possible to display Japanese characters (among many others). All I need is a grf file with the characters in the three font sizes and their Unicode code points.
That's going to be fairly large!

Okay, what language are we using? I can read Hiragana to some extent, but Katakana and that other one you need to know 15000+ symbols to read the newspaper have me completly stumped.

Nice development, Patchman, thanks for telling us about it :).

But now that I think about it, if we put everything in Japanese, won't TTD then be no easier to play than Freetrain?!?

Sounds like fun :D.

Actually, the Japan set must be released in english and japanese, since, as you very well point out, it would be quite hard to play. But it's a nice feature... I'd love to see city names in japanese characters!

Aegir, I got your file, thanks for the fast reply! I'm testing it right now, I'll send you a bug report soon.

Post screenshots whenever you can, Sanchimaru. Work up some attention for the set :D.

Based upon Krtaylor's recommedation's, I am posting two buildings I created while practicing my skills - (abandoned) old, small warehouse and a column striped building with an attempt at columns upon the corners.

Comments and criticism - send them my way please,

I like the colours and shape of the tower, only I think the tower itself is a little skinny in comparison to other TT buildings. Nice work though. Very oriental looking.

Those are optional, not required.

axlrose: fine job you got there! I like a lot the abandoned warehouse. it is very well textured. The tower is quite fine too, but its style is not japanese, but chinese.

My comments:

WAREHOUSE:

> it's odd to have an "abandoned" building, since the way TTD works you would have: "abandoned warehouse (under construction)" as if abandoned was the goal...

So we can either:

1) have the abandoned warehouse as a construction stage for another building (representing that there was a warehouse there, and it's removed to build something else)

2) have it not as a town building, but as a station building. One of the US stations changes look depending on servicing. If you draw a "normal" version of the warehouse, we could have a freight station building with the mentioned feature.

CHINA TOWER

> Since it doesn't belong strictly here (I have never seen such a building around here, nor anything remotely resembling) it can be part of any urban set; I don't think that it should be limited to be here.

> The building is well drawn, but the colors are too bright. Try to look a better color scheme for it and then add texturing; it will look really good.

> You should work on the construction stages too. Despite they are not strictly mandatory, it won't look good in the game without them. I can lend you some sprites (beams, shovel cars, etc.) and Zimmlock and George have some too; they lent them to me when I asked for them, I'm sure they'll have no problem if you ask

Tower

please pardon me if i am a bit late, but that tower does remind me of some shrines in hiroshima...
anyway, u shuld make the china tower into some sort of cool modern office

Hi, pagani, welcome around :D

The china tower looks great, More detail and texturing could be added, but it is really fine. However, what I meant is that it's style is much more chinese than japanese.

This is a modern building with traditional chinese decoration:

If axlrose adds construction stages to that building, it will look really cool. But still, that doesn't strictly belong here, it can be part of the "China town" of any other urban replacing set

I got a similar problem with Shinkansen in the last file that gl2 sent me via PM. The colors wen all strange, and randomly appeared messed up or the right way...

lws, What version are you using? The trains GRF is very very near completion, so hold up a while, and you will be able to play the finished version.

It's the one closest to this page, uploaded by Aegir. I think it's over on page 109.

EDIT: Actually, it's on page 108 and it's from Szappy, but it's still the most recent one.
Also, where is the buildings file?

by Sanchimaru
The buildings file is the one being currently worked on by Aegir. It contains the buildings, roads and landscape. That one is also very near finishing, but it has yet some details to be polished.

The trains file is being worked by gl2, a friend and temmate of Szappy. We are privately checking both versions until we get the final release, since we are so near.
